Similarly, strong bases are bases that dissociates completely
in water just like strong acids.
For now, bases
are hydroxides of metals. Later we will refine this definition
further.
All hydroxides of Group IA metals and Ca, Sr, and Ba are
strong bases.
–They
dissolve in water to produce hydroxide ions.
–These
are referred to as alkalis.
Other metal hydroxides are insoluble but react with acids
to produce salt and water
