Metal Extraction
Rock salt is an ore of the metal sodium
Silver (when it is in an ore) and all the other elements above it in the reactivity series have to undergo a chemical reaction before we can produce the desired metal.
The chemical reactions employed to extract metals from their ores are either reaction with air or reaction with carbon (a reducing agent) or electrolysis.
However, we will study only the latter two.
