Core & Ext. Metals: Displacement Rxns & Stability of Compounds
Slide 29 of 42
Stability of Nitrates and Hydroxides
The stability of the two compounds of metals also follow a pattern that we would expect.
The nitrates and hydroxides of the most reactive metals are either stable to heat or if they do decompose, then do not decompose to the same extent as those of the rest of the metals in the series.
The hydroxides of all group 1 metals are stable to heat.
The nitrates of group 1 metals decompose to the nitrite and oxygen.
