Stability of Nitrates and Hydroxides
Similarly, nitrates of other metals decompose to the oxide, nitrogen dioxide and oxygen.
Hydroxides of the other metals however are not as stable and decompose on heating to the oxide and water.
The reaction is always accompanied by the evolution of the dark brown nitrogen dioxide gas, and often by a change in the color of the solid.
