Water Purification: Chlorination
The water is then chlorinated - a small amount of chlorine is added to disinfect the water and kill any micro-organisms or germs (D).
Finally, the clean water is stored in large service reservoirs and distributed through the mains water system to all parts of the community.
Adding chlorine to the water can result in a slight increase in the acidity of the water. Sometimes lime is added to the water to neutralize the acidity.
